The Lux Belle Mare in Mauritius is probably one of the nicest hotels we’ve ever stayed at as a family. We stayed at the hotel for ten nights in August 2016. On a room and breakfast basis, in a junior suite with a pool view.
The Lux Belle Mare is situated in the laid back village of Belle Mare, on the East part of the island. Whilst Mauritius is relatively small, it tends to experience different weather fronts on different parts of the island. So it’s well worth knowing that the East of the island is generally warm and sunny, but can be breezy at times.
We stayed at the Lux Belle Mare with a six week old baby and a three year old toddler. We therefore very purposely picked a hotel that we thought would cater for every need, and we weren’t disappointed.
Walking into the hotel felt like stepping into a second home. The warmth and hospitality extended to us on arrival made us feel instantly welcome and at ease. Whilst the smooth and extremely efficient check in and room transfer was exactly what we needed after a twelve hour flight and stop over.
A huge attraction of the hotel for us were the Kelly Hoppen designed rooms, and our room did not disappoint. It looked exactly like the website (which is always a good sign) and perhaps even a little better. Our room which was situated on the ground floor overlooking the main pool, was well sized, well lit, clean, fresh and straight out of a magazine.
The Lux Belle Mare was a relatively new hotel, but by no means inexperienced or lacking in any way. In fact it’s the kind of hotel that is five steps ahead and always looking for ways to surprise and delight its guests.
In a world where any hotel can put a Nespresso machine in the room, we adore those like the Lux Belle Mare where the staff genuinely care about their guests and what they experience. Because it’s the little, personal touches that distinguish the truly five star hotels.
There are so many things to love about the Lux Belle Mare. Like the private white sandy beach on the doorstep of the hotel. The beautiful pools, amazing food carts, restaurants and delicious home made ice cream.
The food was really good, as is expected from a hotel of this calibre. The food trucks, ice cream parlour and Duck and Laundry restaurant were our favourites. Though a word of warning for anyone staying on a room and breakfast basis, its very expensive! We were visiting Mauritius for a family wedding so didn’t end up eating at the hotel every day, but you very easily could if you wanted to.
The hotel also offers quite a lot of health and fitness related activities, such as yoga classes, spa treatments, various work shops and of course a gym. But as we were visiting with very young children we didn’t get the chance to use or check any of these out. However the hotel seems to offer most things you could want or think of in this area.
I couldn’t write a review of the Lux Belle Mare without mentioning the amazing staff. Every single person we met made a real and authentic effort to chat to us and our children. I want to emphasise how big a part they are of what makes the Lux Belle Mare such a wonderful place to stay.
That along with things like the brushes for sandy toes outside hotel rooms. Slippers in the room not just for mum and dad, but little feet too. The red pearl bracelet every family member is given when they check out to remember their stay at the Lux Belle Mare by are some of the little touches that make it a truly five star stay and experience.
We would go back to the Lux Belle Mare in a heartbeat. Everything about our stay from start to finish was wonderful. We were all very sad to leave and really hope that we get to go back to the hotel or to another Lux on the island in future. So from us, it comes highly recommended as the perfect family hotel to stay at in Mauritius.
Top tips; The Lux Belle Mare is wonderful and truly worth a visit. But look out for the Lux Grand Baie opening in 2020, or check out the recently opened Lux Grand Gaube on the North of the island which isn’t quite as breezy as the East.
