6 Books You Must Read in 2017!

6 Books You Must Read This Year

It is she who has enough confidence to define success and failure for herself who succeeds.ย

As you may notice, many of the books that I have been reading and am currently reading are very much centred on business and the lessons of those that have been successful in starting them. I have long held a burning desire to start my own and hopefully this will be the year that I do it which you can read more about in my 2017 aspirations post. Over the last few months I have developed an insatiable thirst to learn and absorb as much as I can from those that have walked the path that I hope to share. Plus only having a six month old and a three year old to talk to five days a week makes you miss engaging the intellectual part of your brain. I hadn’t picked up a book in so long, and then suddenly over the last few months I have found myself reading more books that I can keep up with. I keep finding all these amazing books that I just want to tell the world about, so here are six amazing books that you MUST read in 2017!

#1 #GirlBoss

This book is a game changer. Actually they all are. But this book is THE game changers of all game changers. For anyone that’s ever wanted to start a business, has just started a business or is planning to start a business in the future then #GirlBoss is a must read. I have to admit, I saw this book pop up on Amazon and a few blogs at least a year ago but thought it was just the latest on trend book that people were reading and dismissed it. But for some reason that I can’t quite remember, I added it to my Christmas list and thank goodness I did. Written by the CEO of Nasty Girl, a huge american clothing brand, Sophia Amorusa shares how she went from selling vintage clothes on eBay to unintentionally starting her own massively successful global clothing brand. Her path was completely unconventional which has given her so many lessons to share about how she got there and what she’s learnt along the way. It’s hugely inspirational and motivating, and probably the best book I’ve read in a while which says a lot when you look at this list. It’s definitely my favourite of the six!

#2 Big Magic

Big Magic, written by Elizabeth Gilbert who wrote Eat, Pray, Love is a must have for anyone that considers themselves creative in any sense of the word. She talks about the life of a creative so accurately. I love her concept of big magic and the lens that she sees the world of the creative through and could relate to so much of what she talks about. I’m pretty certain most of us creative types will. It’s the type of book that excites you, has you nodding your head and wanting to tell anyone who will listen about it because it’s almost as if she is talking about you.

#3 The Life Changing Magic of Not Giving a F**K

All my life I’ve been conscious that I’ve been one of those people who has cared too much about what other people think, which to be honest is exhausting. Over the last year or two in particular I’ve really wanted to change that and The Life Changing Magic of Not Giving a F**K is all about doing just that in the least offensive way. About living life for you and doing what makes you happy, by ultimately making decisions and living a life that isn’t based on what makes other people happy, or what others think. Even just the thought of doing it is empowering, and although I’m only through the first few chapters of this book, I’ve already had a few aha moments that have me pretty excited about what life might look like by the time I’ve finished it.

#4 How To Style Your Brand

I read Fiona Humberstone’s book “How To Style Your Brand” last summer and absolutely loved it. I found it such a well written, practical and helpful book that I had to include it on my must read list this year for anyone that hasn’t read it. I found it indispensable for helping my re-brand my blog last year, and thinking about my brand more holistically. If you’re serious about your blog and professionalising it, or have a business or brand that you are planning to start or re-brand then this is absolutely a must read as Fiona talks through the branding process in such a clear, straightforward and easy to understand way.

#5 Want To Start A Business?

If you’re looking for something shorter, sharper and snappier then “Want To Start A Business?” by Kikki K founder may be your book. Kristina Karlsson shares her ten lessons that she learnt through starting her own super successful global stationery brand. The book offers little nuggets of wisdom, inspirational and motivational quotes in a very simple and quick to read book. Even with two little ones to run after all day, I managed to read this in a couple of hours and definitely picked up one or two things that I didn’t know, or hadn’t heard before.

#6 Love x Style x Life

Its well known that Garance Dore is the epitome of all things French chic, and for a while I have wanted to read her iconic Love x Style x Life book. I have always had a bit of a love affair with France, its beautiful language, food, and of course their style. If I could have picked anywhere to have been born, I am sure it would have been France. This book is not only the perfect coffee table book, but it is one that oozes the secrets, tips and tricks of one seriously fashionable and cultured french lady.

All of these books have touched me in some way, shape or form. Most of them have been game changers. All of them have inspired me, and all of them to deserve to be on this list and read by so many others. They are the kind of books that give you that fire in your belly and that glint in your eyes. These are quite simply books you must read in 2017.

So which one are you going to read this year? Let me know in the comments below!

I was planning on reading a few blogging books once I’d had the time to do a little research. Your post has definitely given me a few ideas of a couple which I need to read!!

Fiona Humberstone’s book sounds really interesting. She was interviewed on the Blogtacular podcast year and it was really, really interesting and deffo worth a listen, but I waved the book off as something that I didn’t need, but you’ve made me rethink that. Argh, more shopping ๐Ÿ˜‰

I just think that this is a book that I need in my life as I am so guilty of running my life around other people’s opinions. I think you can gain so much insight and inspiration from these kind of books and it sounds like you have a very exciting year ahead of you. Good luck in your ventures Emily! I’ll look forward to reading more about it. Thanks so much for linking up with us at #DreamTeam xx

I totally forgot that there are actually GROWN-UP books! Oh, how I miss them. Thank you for your recommendations. Very likely one of the big reasons why I haven’t made time to read myself is that it takes additional time to figure out WHAT to read!
