April Favourites

April Favourites

April has been a bit of a month for beauty and well-being with three out of four of my favourites being focused on body and mind. As I get nearer to the end of this pregnancy I am definitely starting to feel like I need to get prepared which I think is reflected in this months finds.

1. Mindful Hypnobirthing Book

The closer we’ve gotten to our due date, the more I’ve started to feel like I need to start getting myself mentally prepared for birth. We practiced hypnobirthing the first time round with the little lady, and whilst we didn’t quite have the birth we had hoped for, hypnobirthing helped us feel well equipped to ask the right questions and make informed decisions. This time round I’m hoping that with a bit more practice on some of the exercises, a renewed sense of purpose and a body that has already birthed one baby, we may have more chance of an easier and better birth experience. I’ve still got all my books and materials from the first time round, but I decided to get a copy of Sophie Fletchers Mindful Hypnobirthing book which felt a bit more of an easier and more relatable read. So far I’m really enjoying it and would definitely recommend it to anyone considering Hypnobirthing.

2. Lush Let The Good Times Roll Facewash

I am forever in Lush buying bath bombs for the little lady who can’t get enough of them. She loves them because they are fun and delicious smelling. I love them because they are great natural products that are also a great incentive for getting the little one into the bath. We’ve only really started shopping there in the last year, but in all that time I’ve never actually tried any of their products for myself. So when I ran out of face wash this month it was the perfect excuse to pick up a tub of their Let the Good Times Roll cleanser to try. Conceptually it is a little different with the cleanser being presented in a tub that you create a paste with in your hands rather than the traditional tube of squirty face wash that I am used to. But I have to say I was pretty instantly impressed with this and how moisturised it left my skin feeling so don’t mind the change in application. As with all Lush stuff it smells pretty great and is reasonably priced too at £6.95 for a 100g tub.

3. The Body Shop Coconut Body Mist

When I’m pregnant I’m always really conscious of the fact that your body absorbs any products you put onto it, so I tend to start changing some of my body products opting for more natural and less perfumed products. I love the Body Shop Coconut range and have used their Coconut Body Butter for as long as I can remember, so when I was in one of their stores earlier this month and noticed that they had extended their range to include a Coconut Body Mist I decided to grab a bottle to try. Last time round I didn’t stop using perfumes until after the little lady was born, but have decided that I could try to stop using them now by substituting them with this. It’s a bargain at £7.50 for 100mls and smells pretty amazing. A bit like summer and holidays decanted in a bottle which makes me smile every time I put some on.

4. Baby Gap Sweatshirt

I picked up this very cool little sweatshirt that I’ve had my eye on for a while for the newest and littlest member of our family from Baby Gap. This has been on my new baby clothes wish list ever since I first spotted it a month or so ago, so I was delighted when I spotted this in their sale a few weeks ago. The little lady lived in baby grows for at least the first three months of her life so I picked up this sweatshirt in 6-12 months assuming I’ll follow a similar approach to dressing this little one. Plus, as I found the first time round, summer babies don’t wear much more than vests for the first few months anyway!

So those are my favourites for April, all things that are making me feel calm and refreshed. I cant wait to see what we find in May! What things have you found this month that you love and bring you joy?

We love coconut oil and used it on the gremlin when she was tiny. Smells amazing too! I hope you are starting to feel a little better and ready for your birth. I think if you are relaxed and prepared you will be better. Second ones tend to be faster and smoother so sending you lots of luck xx Thanks for hosting xx

Thats what everyone keeps saying and im really hoping thats the case! I think properly practicing hypnobirthing second time round will also help. I completely agree about being relaxed and better prepared 🙂 Hope you are starting to get your energy back now and feeling a bit better too!

I used to find the strong scents really over powering, but once youre in the store its actually quite nice I’ve found. Definitely a trend amongst the young ones, in fact, it was only because of my 13 year old niece that we went into Lush in the beginning!

    • April 25, 2016 / 8:01 pm

I’ve heard good things about the No 7 range, I think I am going to have to check them out after! Thanks for the recommendation 🙂

It really is! So many people have such great experiences through it, but you have to practice it which I wasnt very good at first time round. I’m definitely trying to apply myself more second time round so fingers crossed it makes a difference 🙂

  10. April 25, 2016 / 11:27 am

Even your photo evokes sheer tranquility! I haven’t been to the body shop for ages and was just reminiscing about the popularity of white musk and morello cherry lipbalm in the 90s. That sweater is too cute X #MarvMondays

    • April 25, 2016 / 7:47 pm

Oh white musk is totally 90’s! I remember it being everywhere, although for some reason white musk brings Avon to mind for me 😉

    • April 25, 2016 / 7:46 pm

Its absolutely divine, and thats a great idea! Never thought about layering scents.. clever lady 😉

    • April 25, 2016 / 7:42 pm

Its so funny as I would have said exactly the same thing about a year ago! I used to find the smells a bit overwhelming when we walked pass their stores, but its actually really lovely once you go in. I challenge you to go in and come out empty handed! 😉

  15. April 25, 2016 / 6:22 pm

Love the look of that hypnobirthing book, may have to get it after I finish my Katherine Graves one (it’s a bit wishy-washy). Brill idea with the bath bombs too; I’m always looking forways for A to enjoy his bath (as he still has a plastic one as we don’t have a bath) and I didn’t realise they used natural products, shall check it out. Also, LOVE the baby gap sweatshirt, one of my favourite places to buy baby shiz! xxx

    • April 25, 2016 / 7:41 pm

Oh you so need to get yourself into a Lush store! I think you’ll love it 😉 I’ve been watching Katherine Graves videos on You Tube, shes really calming and I really enjoying watching them. I think the original book that I had last time round is by the american lady that kind of invented hypnobirthing, but its a bit wishy washy too. The Mindful Hypnobirthing book is definitely a bit more now I think, so you shuld definitely check it out 🙂 x

My daughter has quite sensitive skin so I tend to avoid bubbles etc but I wonder if Lush bath bombs might be ok? Will pop in next time I smell one! She’s never keen on bath time either so it might help x

My daughter is exactly the same and has recently had pretty bad ezema flare ups, but Lush products have been great on her skin. So far we only use the bath bombs with her and they’ve been absolutely fine 🙂

  23. April 25, 2016 / 10:23 pm

Great list. I think I’ll have to check out Lush the next time I see one, I love to change up my products now and again and my skin can be on the sensitive side, any excuse really! x #MarvMondays

I never thought of buying bath bombs for our kids baths! They would go absolutely nuts over them, since I am forever pouring bubble bath in. Bath bombs would be icing on the cake. I may have to look into a hypnobirthing book. As a labour nurse, I would love to be able to help moms achieve their goals, including if they wanted to use these techniques.
Thanks so much for linking with #KCACOLS! I hope you come back next Sunday!

Oh you absolutely should look into hypnobirthing. I believe it was orginally started by a US based nurse.. Bath bombs are definitely lots of fun for little ones, give them a go 🙂

  26. April 26, 2016 / 7:58 pm

That hypnobirthing book is brilliant, I read that before my first last year, however we didn’t get the birthing experience we wanted as I was induced, but I definitely think it helped me stay calm and think about beaches! I love the Baby Gap jump too. For me my April favourites are actually for my daughter, and a pretty silly but effective – breadsticks and a Tommee Tippee straw cup. Claire x #KCACOLS

I had such a similar experience with hypnobirthing the first time round too! Really interested to see how it all turns out second time round 🙂 I totally get the breadsticks and tommee tippee cup thing – when you find those things that are a game changer for your baby then they are totally worth putting on your favourites list! x

I’ve got that Hypnobirthing book, I’ve found it really good to read, definitely calms me. I love anything from the Body Shop and Lush, they always smell so nice! That sweatshirt is so gorgeous. I love Baby GAP clothes. We stupidly put Little Miss H in quite a lot of outfits when she was first born. And most of them met an unpleasant end once they’d been put on. So this time I think we’ll be going the same route as you and dressing Little Mister H in a lot of all in ones and rompers. And the Body Shop Coconut Body Mist sounds divine and as you say much better for baby than normal perfume. Thanks for hosting #MarvMondays and I am so sorry that it has taken me so long to reply.
