To say I am excited about Christmas this year is a bit of an understatement. Just a bit. Ok massively! I always find the run up to Christmas almost as exciting as the event itself. A little like the excitement that builds when you are heading to the airport just as you are about to go on a holiday. I love getting organised and getting the house ready for Christmas. A huge part of that for me each year is picking a theme and finding christmas cards, wrapping paper and decorations that all work together. I love then setting aside some time to sit down with my favourite christmas music to write all our cards and wrap all our presents. It really is the best time of year. Its taken me a few weeks, as it always does, to find the perfect christmas cards this year so I wanted to share my top three christmas card picks for 2015 which I think are some of the best out there this year,
For the last two years I’ve picked wrapping from Marks and Spencer and this year it seems to be our cards, with the exception of one pack. I’ve found that I’m increasingly impressed year on year by the design and quality of their Christmas card and wrapping paper selection which have really stood out for their originality. I’ve yet to find our wrapping paper for this year, so we’ll see if its a hat trick for M&S!
Anyway, on to the cards! My first pick are these Marks and Spencer’s Santa’s Festive Soldiers cards. These are my favourite because I think they perfectly combine traditional christmas with modern design. I am such a traditionalist when it comes to christmas, I love going to see the Nutcracker ballet at christmas, stockings on christmas eve and getting up early on christmas day to open presents. But at the same time I appreciate and love adding modern touches and new traditions, like filling our own advent calendars and having new christmas pyjamas each year. So these cards really reflect the type of christmas that I like to create each year.
My second pick are these Mark and Spencer’s Luxury Stag and Goose Charity cards. I’m not usually one for diamante detail on cards, but I thought that these were so stylishly and elegantly done that I couldn’t help but want to buy them. I love that there are two different designs to pick from, and again the images are quite traditional, but the card is modern in its overall design. The cards are a little smaller than I would usually go for, but again I really liked them so I overlooked these two things that would usually put me off buying a christmas card. What I particularly love is that these are charity Christmas cards, so 20% of the proceeds are divided between Macmillan Cancer Support and Breakthrough Breast Cancer. You also get a very generous 20 cards in the pack!
Finally I thought these Caroline Gardner cards were rather lovely and a little bit different from lots of other christmas cards out there this year. Caroline Gardner is one of those designers that has caught my eye over the last two years. Our christmas cards last year were one of her really pretty Gold Christmas Tree card designs and we have often bought her occasion cards for friends and family. Like last year she has lots of different christmas designs and prints to pick from, but this one really stood out amongst all the rest when I saw them in Waitrose. Similar to the M&S Luxury Stag and Goose cards, this Caroline Gardner Christmas card is supporting the Meningitis Now charity which is lovely.
So there you have it, my top three Christmas card picks for 2015. Now all I have to do is write them in time for the 1st of December!
