A Year of Adventures #SummerLove

IMG_0013

Last summer we took our first ever family holiday abroad with our two year old toddler. It was unforeseen, unplanned and incredibly last minute but we were deliriously happy and grateful that we were able to take one. A fortuitous series of events meant that we could actually take a holiday for the first time in three years, and it was, hands down the most exciting thing that had happened to us since we moved house last spring. With only a week between booking and actually going on holiday (very uncharacteristic of us), we very quickly got ourselves organised and packed, and before we knew it we were jetting off to warmer, sunnier climes.

We’re not a hugely spontaneous family and actually, one of our family goals this year is to go on more adventures together, be those mini ones or big ones. Because we learned last summer that spontaneity is indeed the spice of life. So starting as we mean to go on, we have booked a family holiday this summer to Mauritius when our newest family member will be no more than a couple of months old. This time last year we would have thought ourselves crazy, but we have learned that life is too short to miss out on adventures.

A hot day at the zoo

Mummy & Ella

Our holiday to Cyprus was a simple but lovely holiday, filled with wonderful mini adventures that made for a life time of wonderful memories. Warm, lazy days filled fun, laughter, happiness and the joy of just being together. In those four days we did more and saw more than I ever thought we would, with trips to far flung beaches across the island, to a hot sweaty walk around a zoo where even the animals sought out shelter from the sun. Days out and drives in our little rental car, to lunches by the pool and dinners along the seafront.

We learnt in those four days that holidays with little ones can be as wonderful as they are before you start as family. As long as you have a great destination and a lovely place to stay like James Villas, you can have a perfect family holiday. We have been to some wonderful places in our life time including Bali, Hong Kong, Mauritius and the Seychelles, but my heart has never felt so happy and light as it did that summer in Cyprus, and so it will be etched forever there as my favourite summer holiday.

This year we start as we mean to go on with a year of adventures and would love to make some of our first holiday memories as a family of four with James Villas.

This post is part of our James Villas #SummerLove entry.

I think it is easier to take little babies on holiday than toddlers – good for you for planning a holiday with your new addition! I would love a holiday… fingers crossed we can get away this year.

how brave to book and travel in such a short space of time! I’m a avid planner and love the whole build up, I don’t think I’d sleep only having a week to get organised. looks and sounds like a lovely break. thanks for linking up to #sharethejoy

It can be scary being spontaneous when you have little ones to think about, can’t it? But what a wonderful way to discover such simple pleasures that last a lifetime! Thanks for sharing #sharethejoy

We don’t tend to do spontaneous adventures like this either – we usually like to plan LOTS!

We did have a last minute holiday to Malta though when my youngest was 5 months old and it was our first holiday as a family of four and it was wonderful!

Good on you for booking your trip to Mauritius already!

Thank you for linking up to #kcacols i HOPE TO SEE YOU BACK AGAIN ON SUNDAY X
