May Favourites

My Petit Canard May Favourites

May has been all about sleeping better, feeling better and looking better, and so all of my May favourites are actually beauty and body products. Earlier in the month I went to MAC with my little sister for her wedding make up consultation, and as much as I tried to keep the focus completely on her whilst she was having her make up done, by the time we got to the end I was itching to buy a few bits for myself that I’d seen the make up artist using. So I did and I picked up lots of goodies for myself, figuring I’m really going to need them in a few weeks time once baby arrives!

1. MAC Strobe Cream

The MAC Strobe Cream was one of the products I saw the make up artist using on my sister and really liked the look of. Essentially it’s a bit of an illuminating cream which gives your skin a healthy, dewy glow. It can go on as a base product underneath any BB creams or foundations that you use and has a lovely smell to it. So far I’m really enjoying using this and like the way this goes onto and looks on my skin. Anything that can give my skin a dewy glow after lots of sleepless nights is going to be a winner!

2. MAC Prep + Prime BB Cream

I have to confess, this isn’t a new MAC product for me. I’ve actually been using this for the last year or two, but I bought a top up as part of my mini MAC haul and thought it was still worth sharing as it’s such a great product. I don’t like to put heavy make up products on my face like foundation, but I do still want coverage which is why I love the Prep + Prime BB cream. It’s light and can be used daily without clogging up your skin so it’s a great compromise. It’s one of my favourite make up products and I’m always recommending it.

3. MAC Cherish Lipstick

I don’t wear lipsticks that often, but I do love a nude lipstick and really wanted to pick up a new one when I was at MAC. I asked the make up artist to pick out one for me and she picked out this nude dusky pink one called Cherish which is one of their most popular selling lipsticks. It’s a really lovely colour, not too pink and not too nude. I love the way it compliments my skin tone and along with Velvet Teddy is probably one of my favourite MAC lipsticks that I own. As with all MAC lipsticks it goes on really well, has a lovely texture and is well worth investing in.

4. MAC Etcetera Lipliner

Lipliners have had a bit of a come back recently with the likes of Kylie Jenner bringing out a range that seems to be flying off shelves as quickly as they hit them. It makes me giggle a little when I think that lipliners used to be a make up product that had been relegated to the 80’s and 90’s, but like many things has come full circle and is back in vogue today. Again, I saw the makeup artist using a lipliner on my sister and really liked the way it blended with the lipstick she was using so I asked her to recommend a colour to go with Cherish and she recommended Etcetra. It’s a really similar colour and tone to the lipstick and I really like the way it compliments it. However I’m not sure it’s as good value compared to most of their other products as it doesn’t dispense any more liner beyond what you get when you open it which left me feeling quite disappointed.

5. Thisworks Deep Sleep Pillow Spray

When I ordered my latest refill of Elemis Japanese Camellia Oil from John Lewis earlier this month, it came with this little sample of thisworks Deep Sleep lavender, camomile and vetivert pillow spray. I’ve come across the brand previously, but never tried any of their products so was really pleased to have a chance to try this out, especially as I’ve found it particularly difficult to get to sleep over the last few weeks. The spray is supposed to help you fall asleep quicker, sleep better and feel more refreshed in the morning if you spray it onto your pillow at night. The few nights I have remembered to do this it seems to have worked its magic and helped me get an easier and better nights sleep. It helps that it smells pretty great too, although its pretty heavy on the lavender so it’s a definitely a scent you have to like if you are going to use this. I’ve enjoyed trying this out and will definitely consider getting a full size bottle once this runs out. They also do a baby sleep pillow spray that I’d be quite keen to give a go so might look at getting a bottle of this to try too!

So those are my favourites for May. All lovely things that have helped me to feel and look better. I cant wait to see what June brings! What things have you found this month that you love and have brought you joy?

I love reading your monthly favourites! I have to admit that I’m not a huge make up fan, tending to go for what’s cheapest or on offer but have friends who rave about MAC so I may treat myself to a mini makeover as a back to work boost! Thanks for sharing #marvmondays

    • May 30, 2016 / 4:54 pm

Aww thanks lovely! That’s the first time anyone’s said that so until now I’ve not actually been sure whether people actually enjoy reading them or not. A make over session before you go back to work is such a fab idea! You definitely should, their consultations are amazing and will make you feel great πŸ™‚

It probably sounds much more glam than it is! I only have an every day routine that I have stuck to day and night for probably the last 5 or so years lol

  6. May 30, 2016 / 3:23 pm

If I am completely honest I know absolutely nothing about make up but one thing I do know is that MAC would definitely be my choice if I did wear it. I’ve been meaning to go to a proper makeup shop/counter for a long time and ask for some advice. The pillow spray sounds really good.x #marvmondays

Oh MAC Consultations are really great. I’ve only ever had one, but it was fab and I’d love to have another. I’m not that good with make up, I’ve literally had the same routine for the last 10 years and could do with a bit of advice myself! The pillow spray is great, I’d definitely recommend giving it a go πŸ™‚

I’m so pleased that lip-liner is making a come back! I really don’t look suit lipstick at all unless I wear a liner with it. Otherwise it just seems to wash into my face for some reason? Love the sound of the baby pillow spray too. Anything that encourages sleep has to be a winner with a teeny one on the way!

Thanks for hosting lovely x #marvmondays

Really loving the strobe cream! I tend to use a mixture of Mac and Benefit products which I love just as much. I’d love to try some other brands though, although I tend to stick to what I know! I didnt realise you did a monthly round up post too, will be popping across to take a peek πŸ™‚

  12. May 31, 2016 / 9:29 pm

Love a good make-up post. It’s so hard not to treat yourself when you see everything being used and all the pretty things laid out! You can’t beat a nice nude lipstick and this one looks pretty. I want to go treat myself just from reading your post! x #MarvMondays

I think that was exactly it! Seeing everything being demonstrated there and then meant they practically sold themselves to me. In all fairness though, I dont often do big make up shops so it was nice to have a little bit of a splurge and try some new things in the process πŸ™‚ The lipstick is definitely one to recommend!

Oh I am a huge MAC fan – my go to make up shop all the time. My girl are obsessed too. One of my favourite must haves is the lingering eyebrow pencil – effortless cool eyebrows in minutes. Love the idea of sleep spray also – will look out for it #MarvMondays

I desperately need to try MAC but there’s not one close to us! I really need to invest in some new products as I’ve been feeling down in the dumps, especially with this huge tummy haha. Kaye xo

Ah boo! Thats no good πŸ™ You need to get yourself on their website pronto. Some third trimester pamepering is definitely in order! Although from what I can see in your (very few) recent pics youre wearing pregnancy well πŸ™‚ x

I have to be extra careful with make-up as I have super sensitive skin so I haven’t tried any of these just yet. The pillow spray sounds amazing and I have to admit that I am about to click off in search for more information about this goody. Thank you for sharing with the #DreamTeam x.
