May has been all about sleeping better, feeling better and looking better, and so all of my May favourites are actually beauty and body products. Earlier in the month I went to MAC with my little sister for her wedding make up consultation, and as much as I tried to keep the focus completely on her whilst she was having her make up done, by the time we got to the end I was itching to buy a few bits for myself that I’d seen the make up artist using. So I did and I picked up lots of goodies for myself, figuring I’m really going to need them in a few weeks time once baby arrives!
1. MAC Strobe Cream
The MAC Strobe Cream was one of the products I saw the make up artist using on my sister and really liked the look of. Essentially it’s a bit of an illuminating cream which gives your skin a healthy, dewy glow. It can go on as a base product underneath any BB creams or foundations that you use and has a lovely smell to it. So far I’m really enjoying using this and like the way this goes onto and looks on my skin. Anything that can give my skin a dewy glow after lots of sleepless nights is going to be a winner!
2. MAC Prep + Prime BB Cream
I have to confess, this isn’t a new MAC product for me. I’ve actually been using this for the last year or two, but I bought a top up as part of my mini MAC haul and thought it was still worth sharing as it’s such a great product. I don’t like to put heavy make up products on my face like foundation, but I do still want coverage which is why I love the Prep + Prime BB cream. It’s light and can be used daily without clogging up your skin so it’s a great compromise. It’s one of my favourite make up products and I’m always recommending it.
3. MAC Cherish Lipstick
I don’t wear lipsticks that often, but I do love a nude lipstick and really wanted to pick up a new one when I was at MAC. I asked the make up artist to pick out one for me and she picked out this nude dusky pink one called Cherish which is one of their most popular selling lipsticks. It’s a really lovely colour, not too pink and not too nude. I love the way it compliments my skin tone and along with Velvet Teddy is probably one of my favourite MAC lipsticks that I own. As with all MAC lipsticks it goes on really well, has a lovely texture and is well worth investing in.
4. MAC Etcetera Lipliner
Lipliners have had a bit of a come back recently with the likes of Kylie Jenner bringing out a range that seems to be flying off shelves as quickly as they hit them. It makes me giggle a little when I think that lipliners used to be a make up product that had been relegated to the 80’s and 90’s, but like many things has come full circle and is back in vogue today. Again, I saw the makeup artist using a lipliner on my sister and really liked the way it blended with the lipstick she was using so I asked her to recommend a colour to go with Cherish and she recommended Etcetra. It’s a really similar colour and tone to the lipstick and I really like the way it compliments it. However I’m not sure it’s as good value compared to most of their other products as it doesn’t dispense any more liner beyond what you get when you open it which left me feeling quite disappointed.
5. Thisworks Deep Sleep Pillow Spray
When I ordered my latest refill of Elemis Japanese Camellia Oil from John Lewis earlier this month, it came with this little sample of thisworks Deep Sleep lavender, camomile and vetivert pillow spray. I’ve come across the brand previously, but never tried any of their products so was really pleased to have a chance to try this out, especially as I’ve found it particularly difficult to get to sleep over the last few weeks. The spray is supposed to help you fall asleep quicker, sleep better and feel more refreshed in the morning if you spray it onto your pillow at night. The few nights I have remembered to do this it seems to have worked its magic and helped me get an easier and better nights sleep. It helps that it smells pretty great too, although its pretty heavy on the lavender so it’s a definitely a scent you have to like if you are going to use this. I’ve enjoyed trying this out and will definitely consider getting a full size bottle once this runs out. They also do a baby sleep pillow spray that I’d be quite keen to give a go so might look at getting a bottle of this to try too!
So those are my favourites for May. All lovely things that have helped me to feel and look better. I cant wait to see what June brings! What things have you found this month that you love and have brought you joy?
