One of our best discoveries of 2018 was Hever Castle, just a hop, skip and jump from us in the beautiful Kent countryside. Not only does it have one of the best playgrounds known to children, but it also has the best ice cream too, and that as any parent knows is worth a visit in itself.
What’s On At Hever Castle
The grounds are beautiful, immaculate and award-winning. There’s a maze for little ones and grown-ups to get lost in alike, a pristine boating lake with canoes, pedalos and rowboats and it has history in spades.
The childhood home of Anne Boleyn, Hever Castle is most definitely worth a visit. There’s lots to do and lots on offer. In the three visits we made in 2018 we still hadn’t experienced everything that’s on offer at Hever. We’ve visited Hever in the spring, summer and winter and each time it has been equally delightful.
Hever often hosts events like jousting and open-air theatre shows on the grounds throughout the year, in addition to seasonal events at Easter and Christmas which are magical. It always feels like there is something new, interesting or exciting on offer to bring us back to Hever Castle.
Food & Drink
Then there’s the food which I always rave about. One of my biggest gripes on family days out is overpriced sloppy catering, but Hever doesn’t suffer from this. It’s restaurants always have such a great range of good quality and reasonably priced food on offer. In fact, I would go as far as saying I look forward to deciding what to eat and drink when we are visiting Hever Castle.
There’s usually something to find fault with on days out like these, whether it’s the food which isn’t quite up to scratch or the cleanliness of the toilets or the less than enthused staff. But I can honestly say that Hever Castle is an all-round fantastic day out for families and I’d definitely recommend it for your next visit to Kent. We for one can’t wait to go back!
