10 Clever Ways To Help Your Kids Be More Active

10 Clever Ways To Help Your Kids Be More Active - Ella & her cousin playing in the gardenWith half term around the corner, the thought of looking after two little ones, all day every day for two and a half weeks has me a little on edge. I’m already thinking to play dates and wondering how many of those we can squeeze in. But realistically we’re not going to be able to get out of the house each and every day. However now that Ella is at nursery school, I know she’s going to need to burn off all that extra energy that she’s used to burning off at school. So I’ve come up with a list of ten clever ways to help your kids be more active during half term, just in case anyone else needs a few ideas too!

10 Clever Ways To Help Get Little Ones Moving

#1 Make an activity jar filled with fun, simple activities for them to do with you, like go for a walk, pick a favourite song and dance to it or play a round of hide and seek. Involve little ones in creating activities to put in the activity jar and make it fun for the whole family.

#2 Go on a scavenger hunt in the garden or in the park. Spring is the perfect time to get outdoors with the little ones. Make your own list of things to find, creepy crawlies or different types of leaves, trees and flowers. Even better, find a printable online and make it super quick and easy to get going if you and the little ones just can’t wait.

#3 Get the bikes and scooters out and take a trip down to a park that you havent been to before, or one that you havent been to for a while and have fun exploring it on two wheels.

#4 Go on a bear hunt. We’ve recently joined the National Trust which gives us access to over 500 beautiful places in the UK. That’s over 500 places to go on a fun bear hunt.

#5 Make an indoor obstacle course, or an outdoor one if the weather is good enough. Use things around the house or garden to make a fun obstacle course for little ones to navigate.

#6 Go on a treasure hunt indoors. Make a list of things for little ones to find and let them race around looking for them.

#7 Surprise little ones with a pair of Heelys and watch their enthusiasm for getting out and about grow. Make going out to the supermarket or the shops a game, and get them to skate around helping you find things to put in the basket or trolley.

#8 Go on a camera safari and see what the world looks like through your little ones eyes. Take little ones outdoors, give them a camera or your phone and let them snap away at everything they see and find interesting. Not only is this a fun and interesting activity, but you’ll cover lots of ground without even realising it!

#9 Try Geo Caching. The worlds biggest treasure hunt. All you need is a phone and a sense of adventure to find the treasure hidden by others all around the country.

#10 Create a tidy up time game like the one we play at home. Get the backpacks on and let little ones go around the house collecting all the things that need to be put back in their room. Make it fun with music or a song and time it to see if they can return everything to their room by a certain time.

So there you have it, ten clever ways to help your kids, and you be more active! What are your favourite way to keep your kids active?

Brilliant ideas. The backpack tidy up game is a genius idea. I’ll be sure to try that one. I love a good scavenger hunt and was just saying to my OH yesterday that we should go on one. I also love the geocaching idea. I haven’t had a go of it yet but I’ve downloaded the app so i’m eager to get out and have a go of it. #marvmondays

I need the opposite of this. I need ways to make them less active I swear! I might be the only parent begging the kids to sit down and watch a half hour of tv!

We love spending time outdoors, so hopefully the weather will let us. We have a beach hut & the sea air works wonders on tiring children out. The girls have been talking about Easter egg hunts again this year so I’m sure we will no doubt give that a go. #marvmondays

Glad I read this for the link to the tidy up game alone! We also like to play dinosaur hunt, which involves me hiding loads of them around the garden. Not full size.
