10 Random Reasons For A Toddler Tantrum

Toddler pushing pushchair

As a parent of a toddler, I’ve come to realise over the last few months that this toddler business is rather precarious. Tantrums and tears can happen at the drop of a hat and for the most random and whimsical of reasons. I couldn’t help but be slightly amused the other day when a plane in the sky caused my little lady’s latest meltdown, and so begins the list of 10 random reasons for a toddler tantrum. Have a read, then add your own!

1. Because the aeroplane has flown away and disappeared into the sky, like aeroplanes do.

2. Because there are no Cinderella pull ups left in the packet. Only Minnie Mouse, and Minnie Mouse just won’t do.

3. Because mummy or daddy selected the wrong episode of Peppa Pig from the 20 other identical looking episodes to pick from. No, not that one mummy, the other one that looks exactly like that one. Duh.

4. Because mummy or daddy broke or cut the orange, banana or potato in half. In fact breaking anything in half is just bad news. No breaking or cutting things in half! OCD much?

5. Because her balloon from the most recent birthday party she attended has deflated over the last few days. Erm, they do that right?

6. Because she doesn’t like the usual cup she uses for her bedtime milk. She MUST have one of the other cups that she hasn’t used for months.

7. Because on the way home from nursery, she wants to go on a completely random route she truly believes will take us home but wont (based on the fact that it is going in the opposite direction!).

8.Because she wants to wear her Toy Story, Disney Princess or Cinderella pyjamas (again), but can’t because they are in the wash (again!).

9. Because after wearing them to bed, she then wants to go to nursery in her Toy Story, Disney Princess or Cinderella pyjamas and completely believes this is acceptable normal every day attire (in all fairness we need to teach her that it’s not!).

10. Because rather use the pushchair for what it was designed for and sit in it,  she wants to push and steer it in a busy shop, supermarket, street or airport without any help from mummy or daddy.

So I’ve basically I’ve come to realise that my little lady has quite an independent streak, is very headstrong and at times incredibly fickle! What kind of random things does your little one have tantrums about that you just dont get? What have been the amusing or the most random or the most stressful tantrums or tears you’ve experienced so far?

Don’t you just LOVE them! Your daughter sounds very like my three year old. Balloons equal disaster in our house, particularly the lovely shiny helium ones – why have they not invented one yet that lasts forever?! πŸ˜‰

Thanks for linking up to #coolmumclub, I’m glad you did because it brought me to your blog, and hopefully others too! I’ll be back… x MMT

Oh these are brilliant! My little boy had a complete meltdown over a breadstick, broke it in half and threw it across the room (only to go back and eat it when he’s calmed down). I still couldn’t tell you why. #coolmumclub

Hehe Peppa has caused a fair few tantrums in our house, and wow if we get an episode wrong even though he’s been so vague about which one he wants!

Oh goodness me, I know exactly what you mean and feel your pain. We have had multiple tantrums about picking the wrong peppa pig episode! Nice to know it’s not just in our house πŸ˜‰

Toddlers X 2 in our house!!! Meltdown city. Hmmmm…I peeled the banana…apparently that was taboo….I selected the wrong t-shirt…I put tomato sauce on the sausages….It took too long to toast the toast…EXHausting! Regularly have to remind myself to breathe. Great blog; thanks for sharing.

Haha I love toddler tantrums I think they are hilarious, these sound similar to Arthurs, although he couldn’t give a monkeys about what we dress him in (when we dress him at all since it’s too hot most of the time!!!)
The thing about getting cross about heading in a certain direction when we are out and about makes me laugh so much bless him!!

Oh yep, they are so unpredictable. One day I am allowed to open my sons curtains in the morning, the next day my 3 1/2 year old daughter has a melt down because she wanted to do it. Other random tantrums for getting to the stair gate first and opening, wrong spoons, plate and cup colours can always set off tantrums. can’t be long before they end now surely?????? #KCACOLS

Yes, cutting food in half is a serious issue – Cub is definitely into whole foods only πŸ™‚

    Others for us:
    – sun setting and not immediately coming back up
    – rainbow not coming into the garden

The food cutting is a particular new on and Phoebe (2 and half) freaked out as after opening it up (a ritual) I realised it had a black end and quickly broke it off, a tiny amount but it still sent her into super tantrum lady and it resulted in the banana being mashed up and lots of “no no no no no” Also anything to do shoes or socks sets her off so totally feeling ya pain, hang on in there! #TheList
