I’ve been so preoccupied and distracted by the little guys sudden onslaught of teething, job hunting and all the rest of the craziness that is my life at the minute that I’d barely given Mothers Day this year a second thought. To be honest I never really make a big deal about it or celebrate (milk) it as much as I probably could (should). But after reading the lovely Fi from Beauty Baby and Me’s post on what she really wants this mothers day I realised that actually, I’d quite like some of these things myself, and why shouldnt I too after devoting myself to two little people for the last 1333 days (O.M.G). As much as I enjoy a new item of make up or piece of clothing, the best gift these days are usually the things that money can’t buy.
8 Things I’d Like This Mothers Day
#1 All the sleep..
A proper lie in. Just for once. To be honest, I actually get quite lucky on the Mondays and Fridays that both the little ones are at home with me. It’s not unusual for them both to let me sleep in till 8am or 9am on a really good day. But I’d love it if I could lie in until 9am or 10am completely uninterrupted, with no middle of the night waking to feed or help someone into our bed.
#2 Another excuse to fall asleep
A lovely full body massage would be great. I was robbed of properly enjoying my birthday full body massage when the little lady insisted she join me for my pampering afternoon. Although she was really well-behaved and the staff looked after her for me, it wasnt really the same because I couldn’t properly relax and get into it for worrying if she was ok whilst waiting outside the room for me.
#3 Oh and flowers, always pretty flowers
A huge bunch of tulips to feed my flowers obsession, or even better, pretty pink Peonies if they come into season in time.
#4 A legitimate excuse for new blogging bits
Beautiful new blogging props. I have my eye on a new Capture By Lucy backdrop and a gorgeous chunky knitted blanket that I just have to have.
#5 The one thing money can’t buy
Some quiet me time. I’m not quite sure what I’d do with it as the possibilities are endless. I’d love to have a mooch around the shops on my own, or sit down and enjoy a whole cup of hot chocolate or tea, or finally read the pile of books that I’ve been stocking piling since last year.. The novelty of me time always wears off pretty quickly these days though as I have lost the art of enjoying me time and find myself at some point wondering what to do and missing my little brood.
#6 Alone time with my favourite guy
Some one on one time with the Mr. Not exactly what mothers day is about, but so desperately needed. We havent been on a date day or night for well over a year and really need one. Its our own fault in a way (it’s totally our fault) as we don’t prioritise it and we havent quite let go of the purse strings with the littlest, so mothers day could be a good time to book one in.
#7 An excuse to dust off the high heels
A family breakfast, lunch or dinner out somewhere nice. We used to be really good at going out to eat as a family for dinner on a Saturday evening or on a Sunday for lunch. But since the little guy arrived we seem to have stopped doing this, often getting a cheeky takeaway on a Friday or Saturday night instead. I love eating out so this would be a real treat.
#8 A mini adventure
A family day out somewhere. A mini adventure of some kind. To the shops, a new park, the woods, an English National Trust place (we just joined so are a little obsessed). Just somewhere we havent been before or somewhere we love. As much as I would love some peace and quiet and some me time, it wouldn’t be Mothers Day without my little family because at the heart of it, it’s about celebrating how special and privileged it is to be a mother.
So tell me, what are you hoping for this Mothers Day? I’d love to know in the comments below..
Yes yes yes! I want all the things too. Especially sleep. Oh and hot water and heating as ours hasn’t been working for the last 5 days. Hoping we all have a fabulous Mummy’s day. xoxo
Oh my goodness, sleep and some me time would be AMAZING! It’s my first mother’s day so I am feeling very blessed but a night of uninterrupted sleep followed by a day on my own with a book and a bottle of gin would be like winning the lottery X #bestandworst

I would probably ask for a date night and me time too and then feel really bad as shouldn’t I be spending the day with the kids??? I can’t believe your kids sleep in so much. The gremlin wandered into her sister’s room this morning, when I was putting her back to bed at 5.40am, all dressed in a glitter skirt!! Thanks for sharing with #bestandworst x

Awww these are some really lovely ideas! I wrote a similar post a few weeks back – like you we have kept a tight reign on the purse strings since Wills joined us, and I also don’t really like to make a big fuss on Mother’s Day/my birthday etc… #MarvMondays

Funny as I’ve thought the exact same about me time?! It’s a bit wrong on Mother’s Day but it would just be so right π
Lovely post, hope you get spoilt rotten. X
I love this- it’s the only gift guide I’ve read so far that makes any sense to me π I would have everything on your list too if I could x #marvmondays
Sounds great.
A lie in would be very much appreciated here, but the clocks go forward so it will be an hour less sleep, and therefore not going to be much of a lie in.
However I hope there is a little adventure for us to go on, but we will see.
π x

I think your list is wonderful. Isn’t just like a mother to only want things that money can’t buy. We just want some rest! Rest and some fun! That doesn’t always mean money. I want a mini adventure too though! Like a nice day trip. Man that sounds dreamy. #MarvMondays

What a lovely list! Mine would be similar – sleep (uninterrupted), lie in, peonies, and some time to sort the house out. But as you say at the end, actually I just want to spend the day with my family and do enjoy some quality time together – hopefully outside in the sun, and all preferably after a a cheeky cuppa in bed! #MarvMondays
