Pregnancy Update: Weeks 23 – 25

Week 24 Bump Pic 2

Symptoms

Exhausted most definitely sums how I have felt over the last few weeks. Work is relentless and has been since January, and life is generally pretty busy. I definitely get the sense that I need to slow down and my body is starting to tell me that every morning when I wake up. It’s such an effort to drag myself out of bed and get through each day at the moment. Whats worse is that we ended up in hospital one evening this week for monitoring on a day when I felt particularly rough and probably should have taken the day off work rather than persevere through it. In the end both baby and I turned out to be just fine, it’s probably that I passed on my exhaustion to the poor thing. It was definitely a bit of a wake up call and realisation that at six months pregnant, it’s probably time to start slowing down!

I think there must be something going on with my hormones as well as I’ve had the most terrible breakout on my face over the last week. I suffered a bit with my skin in the first trimester and then thankfully it settled, but it seems to have flared up again all of a sudden. I’m really hoping that it doesn’t last too long and starts to settle again soon, although I could probably do with drinking more water to help things along as I’ve been pretty terrible with drinking water in this pregnancy.

Food Aversions

None to report!

Food Cravings

I wouldn’t say these are exactly a craving exactly, but I have all of a sudden developed a bit of a liking for mini cream cheese and cucumber bagels. I don’t know what it is about them, but I just can’t get enough of them at the moment. On the other hand, my penchant for plums is starting to wane and they don’t seem to be a necessity every evening like they were a week or two ago.

Emotions

Up and down seems to be the best description. Mostly up, but there have been odd days where I’ve felt upset for no real reason. Luckily those days are few and far between and pass quickly.

Week 24 Bump Pic

What I’m Enjoying The Most So Far

The sweet baby kicks which the husband and little lady can now see and feel too. It’s so lovely for them to finally be able to enjoy the magic of it all too now. It makes me look back on the last few weeks and wonder what I was worrying about all those weeks ago when I was anxious about not being able to feel anything! I’m also quite enjoying secretly knowing what we’re having gender wise. I am so desperate to do a reveal but seem to be all out of creative ideas. I keep thinking that the idea will just come to me, but at this rate baby will arrive before a decent idea does!

What I’m Missing The Most So Far

Clothes are still very much an issue and im finding it really frustrating that increasingly there are fewer and fewer clothes that I can wear from my wardrobe. Even some of the looser items like my shift dresses are starting to look a bit ridiculous. Although I did finally manage to find some decent maternity jeans from TopShop that look great and fit like a dream (pregnant ladies go out and get yourself a pair!), otherwise every day is a struggle.

What I’m Looking Forward To

I’m really starting to look forward to maternity leave now. I started this pregnancy by saying that I’ll work as far into it as I can, but the further along I get the less likely I think that will be. So rather than give myself a week off before baby’s due, I’m taking three weeks and have finally submitted my Mat1B form at work to make it all official – the countdown is finally on yay!

Bump Developments

I have officially given up on my belly button now. It’s so far out im not sure it’ll ever go back in, not properly anyway. In terms of new bump developments, the pesky Linea nigra line has started to faintly appear on my belly over the last week. I had it during my first pregnancy with the little lady and thought after getting to 23 weeks this time round without any sight of it, it might not appear but I was clearly wrong. Apparently it makes an appearance from around week 23 so sadly its pretty bang on time!

Week 23 – 25 Highlights

We’ve bought lots more clothes over the last two week and this little person is definitely started to develop a bit of a wardrobe, and a lovely one too. We definitely need to start thinking about buying some of the bigger baby bits that we need soon like a SnuzPod, new car seat and new pushchair (if I have my way!).

Only a few more weeks and we’ll be going into our third trimester, eek!

I can’t believe that you’re so close to your third trimester already? Time is racing by. I really admire how you’re managing to work so hard and look after your little lady when all you want to do is rest. Not too long now until your blissful maternity leave! Exciting times! :0)

On one hand I cant wait to get to the third trimester so that I know I am closer to finishing work, but on the other i’m dreading how much harder it will start to get physically. I’m sure I’ll look back on this period and question my santiy for pushing myself so hard!

You look so well, but try and take it easy – that must have been pretty scary being in hospital last week. I remember this time and kept thinking I need to slow down, but was getting busier and busier. I hope that you get to enjoy the rest of your pregnancy, and having extra time for maternity will be fun, hopefully the weather will be much warmer and the sun shining. 12. March 7, 2016 / 4:45 pm

Take it easy on yourself – it’s not worth pushing yourself too far. That said, I found it hard to listen to this advice when I was pregnant with my second – it took for me to fall off a chair I was standing on to realise I needed to ask people to help me rather than just try to carry on as normal.

Oh wow! I know that I need to start to take it easy now, and I know that its not worth it. I remember looking back on my last few months of work when I was on maternity leave the first time round and wondering why I’d bothered pushing myself so hard. But like you said, its easier said than done! I’m my own worst enemy and critic and cant help but to always give 100% to everything… but it really is time to start putting myself and the little one first now x

Thanks lovely! Its crazy how quickly things change, even though its really gradual change at the same time. I’ve been meaning to get myself to a H&M for at least the last two months. I had some really nice skinny trousers/jeans from them in my first pregnancy but sold them in my post pregnancy purge (totally regreting that now). Their website range isnt great so I really need to get myself to one of their stores soon. Thanks for the reminder πŸ˜‰

There is something quite nostalgic about reading others pregnancy posts isnt there, especially if its not that long since you’ve had a baby yourself. I remember feeling like that for a few months after I had the little lady too. Im working on the husband on the pushchair front, fingers crossed!

  24. March 10, 2016 / 10:08 pm

I’m glad everything turned out OK when you were monitored – yes, it is definitely time to start slowing down. Maternity clothes were a bit of a frustration for me in my second pregnancy. I didn’t want to spend lots of money on clothes that I’d only wear for a few months but the maternity wear that I did have was really worn out. I did end up buying a few new things to make myself feel better. That third trimester will be hear before you know it! #KCACOLS

Thats exactly how it has been for me. I think theres a good chance this is our last baby so it feels like a bit of a waste to buy lots of maternity clothes, but then I’d much rather be comfortable than uncomfortable. Plus, the further along I get I am finding I just want to buy some bits to make me feel better too, so its almost better that I admit defeat and just get a few more bits now than later. Oh the dilemma! lol

Oh lovely, I am so sorry to hear that you had to go into hospital to be monitored. But I am thrilled that you and baby are doing well. Gosh, I so understand the pressure of doing a gender reveal. It tool me so long to come up with an idea and even now I think it was a little corny. I am sure it must be lovely having a little secret and knowing the baby’s gender. And great call on the Topshop maternity jeans. Good maternity jeans are really hard to find. In the past I have always bought ASOS maternity jeans but I might have to look into the Topshop jeans. Oh and by the way you are gorgeous in all your pregnancy update photographs. Thanks for hosting #MarvMondays lovely. I am really sorry that it has taken me this long to comment. Hugs Lucy xxxx
