Its been a fun few weeks filled with yet more Braxton hicks, period type pains and a dose of lightning crotch here and there for good measure. Baby has had a massive and quite noticeable growth spurt which has led to lots of regular comments at work about how big I’m getting (always lovely to hear) and the feeling that baby is running out of space. Given that we have around another six weeks to go, I really hope that isn’t the case as I really don’t think that either baby or I can get much bigger than we already are. Despite that, baby is still moving around a lot, and pretty much throughout the day. The movements are quite big and uncomfortable at times and I can definitely feel and make out various limbs and body parts a lot of the time. Baby is also quite low at times which has made walking uncomfortable and there have definitely been a couple of waddle moments in the last week or two which make me chuckle to myself as I’ve realised just how heavily pregnant I am now.
Emotions are still very up down and all over the place. So much so that whilst I feel generally ok, I did query it with my GP at our 34 week check just because I am a little concerned that if my hormones are fluctuating so much now, they may be all over the place post baby. It’s definitely one to watch and keep an eye on, but I’m hoping that once I finish work things may become a little more balanced and less stressful which should hopefully help.
What I’m Enjoying The Most So Far
I really enjoyed the sunny weekends we had over the last few weeks. It’s amazing how much happier I feel when the sun is shining and I’ve had a good dose of vitamin D from sitting in the garden. It also meant that I have a few more maternity clothes that I can wear now that I havent been able to wear previously because they were too light for the colder winter and spring days that we’ve had. Its been such a relief to have a few more things to wear in the last few weeks of work, I just hope these sunnier days stick around for a little while longer.
What I’m Missing The Most So Far
A decent nights sleep! By the time I get to 9pm each evening I feel pretty uncomfortable. Baby is super active at this time of night and is usually quite low too which means lots of lightning crotch moments (ouchie) and late night trips to the toilet (yawn). Even with my DreamGenii pillow its difficult to get comfortable and in the last week I’ve taken to sitting on my birthing ball in our bedroom to get comfortable before I get into bed.
What I’m Looking Forward To
Maternity leave which starts in two weeks time (eeeks!). I can’t wait to finally relax and have some time to catch up with myself and get organised. So much so that I even wrote a post about my maternity leave plans. It’ll be so nice not to have to do the commute in and out of London each day which has definitely been taking it out of me. I tend to have a 50/50 chance of getting offered a seat as most days the trains are so packed that people can’t see me, my bump or my baby on board badge. It’ll also be nice to spend some one on one time with the little lady before baby arrives. We’ve decided to drop her nursery days down from five to two days a week when im on maternity leave so that I can spend some time with her both before and after baby arrives. I cant wait to have some proper quality time with her as I’ve really missed that since I went back to work. I’m hoping that we can pack a few days of mini adventures in together before baby arrives if I still have the energy to. I also cant wait to start properly getting prepared for baby and do things like pack our hospital bags, set up our lovely new SnuzPod and wash all babies clothes before he arrives. I finally feel like I can start to get excited about baby arriving soon!
Bump has definitely got bigger and it seems, a bit pointy! I had quite a few comments at work around weeks 32 and 33 about how much bump had suddenly grown. One of my colleagues looked visibly surprised and quite shocked at just how much we had grown after the long bank holiday weekend. It also looks like bump may be starting to drop a little. Although I could just be imagining things as it is still relatively early days and apparently second babies don’t tend to engage until towards the end of pregnancy.
Week 32 – 34 Highlights
The hospital that we’ve chosen which is different from the one that we had our first baby in (purely for distance reasons), has a shared care arrangement which means that some of our midwife appointments, mostly the latter ones are with our GP rather than with the midwife at hospital. Our 34 week check was the first of these and was pretty brief, but to be fair so are most of our midwife ones. That said, we covered all the usual things and she confirmed that baby still seems to be head down, but is not engaged yet. Is measuring spot on, although I know that doesn’t necessarily mean anything in terms of size and has a lovely healthy heart beat. Our next appointment will be at 36 weeks and then every two weeks until we get to 40 weeks which makes it feel like baby’s arrival is more imminent now!
We’ve also made a few new purchases for baby and I that I’m relieved to have, like my birthing ball which is was so needed and a lovely new Bravado Nursing Bra because I loved the Seamless Body Silk one that I reviewed so much. We’ve also had lots of exciting deliveries and have been sent an amazing Medela Breastfeeding kit as part of my role as a Medela Mum, a gorgeous SnuzPod as part of my role as a Snuz Momma, an exciting Fit Bump Box from Dr Joanna Helcke that is the ultimate pregnancy and post pregnancy fitness kit, and a beautiful Whisbear that I cant wait to introduce to baby. We are feeling very spoilt and excited in equal amounts and cant wait to meet baby next month. Only 6(ish) weeks and counting to go now!
