Whats In My Hospital Bag?

My Petit Canard Hospital Bags

Finally, at 37 weeks pregnant I packed our hospital bags. Over the last few weeks its been niggling in the back of my mind that I needed to get these packed, and the reminder by my midwife at our 36 week check coupled with the start of maternity leave at 37 weeks meant that I finally had the time to actually get this done. Hugh sigh of relief and massive tick off the to do list!

The first time round with the little lady we ended up having to stay in hospital for observations for three days so needed quite a lot of things. Much more than we had in our hospital bag. But I’m hoping that this time round we will have a more straight forward experience and therefore wont need as much. I’ve tried to pack as lightly as I can, but make sure we have all the essentials covered and the things that I remember were helpful to have the first time around.

I have a bag packed for myself, for baby and for the little lady in the event that she will need to go and stay with a family member, especially if we end up being at hospital during the evening and/or overnight.

So that’s everything. It’s such a relief to finally have these bags all packed and ready to go. I’m actually feeling like I’m ready now to have this baby! I think I have managed to remember everything, but I’d love to hear if you think there’s anything missing. I havent mentioned my hospital notes, but they are definitely packed in my hospital bag already. They are probably the one essential you really do need!

Pin it for later or share it with another Mum who could use this list!

Wow you are so super organised! I am so glad you wrote this, I’ve bought everything but have to pack the bag still. I must do this tomorrow! And I totally forgot about the sibling gift – duh! And hairbands, I’m so glad you wrote that, it didn’t even cross my mind, but now I remember wanting my hair tied back, I was so hot giving birth! Agh!

I really dont feel it! I think it was only because my midwife said to get our bags packed, and the fact that baby is 4/5ths engaged that I figured I should really get it done. Still need to get a sibling gift, but its on the list for this week.. Cant wait to see what you pack, hope I havent forgotten anything! πŸ™‚

You seem super organised. With my previous pregnancies I packed my hospital bags way before I needed them, but they were never complete. It wasn’t until the day before my induction that I actually got them finished. Luckily nothing was forgotten! X #TwinklyTuesday

Thanks, but I really dont feel like it! Glad to have them done though πŸ™‚ If I knew I was being induced or had a planned c section then I probably would have been a bit more relaxed and packed them later!

Oh wow I love how organised you are! I packed my hospital bag the night before with Lewis, not at all with Joseph, Eva or Megan and on the day itself with Harry! I have been disorganised my whole life! I do regret it though, my husband had to pack it for me with two of mine and the things that he packed were ridiculous! I had one pair of pyjamas, a few nappies and six packs of Ritz crackers!!! #TwinklyTuesday

Oh dear lol, he tried! Everyone keeps saying that but I dont feel that organised at all. I feel like I’ve been cutting it fine if anything! Glad its done though, im very much a to do list kind of gal so its a big tick off the list πŸ™‚

Thank you, its starting to feel very real now!

Argh, no really?! That was my attempt to pack light! I have pound coins for the car park on my list of last minute things to add. Lets hope I dont forget πŸ˜‰

Does your husband have a bag with a spare change of clothes and enough snacks so he doesn’t snaffle yours?

    • June 16, 2016 / 11:17 pm

Thanks for the suggestion! I have actually asked him in the last few days if hes going to pack one but he seems to be going for the less is more approach! Looks like he may end up eating all my snacks (better make sure I buy double!) πŸ˜‰

      • June 20, 2016 / 4:20 pm

That may be fine now but on the day that may be a hanging offence!

You are so organised!! It’s always good to get the little ones something too so they don’t feel left out. Even with our big girl we got her a little something. She didn’t believe Poppy had been to the shops for it though!! #bestandworst

Thanks lovely. It seems to be a really popular thing to do over the last few years so im curious to see how it goes down with the little one. I guess your little one is old enough to realise that a baby probably didnt go out and buy it though πŸ˜‰

Wow, you are very organised Emily! I love this list and how you thought about it in different sections. Also love your choice of going home outfits too. Wishing you all the best of luck for the rest of your maternity leave. Claire x #BloggerClubUK

Thanks lovely. I dont really feel it, but perhaps I am as so many people seem to think so! I realise I have quite a few going home outfits which I was in two minds about pointing out in my post. Its mainly because I dont know how I’ll feel on the day, what type of labour I’ll have and what the weather will be like πŸ˜‰

  8. June 15, 2016 / 9:52 am

Great list! I was so unorganised when I had my kids. I didn’t even have anything packed when my youngest arrived, but then she was early at 36+5 x #BloggerClubUK

    • June 16, 2016 / 11:10 pm

Thanks. Wow, that is pretty early so I dont think anyone can blame you for not having a bag packed then! Hopefully it was all fine in the end and someone was able to help you get what you needed together..

  9. June 15, 2016 / 2:54 pm

Great choices, I felt much more organised with what I was taking 2nd time around although I didn’t pack it till around 37 weeks gone too! Love your images, they look great. Thanks for stopping by and linking up lovely #bestandworst

    • June 16, 2016 / 11:08 pm

Thanks lovely. I guess its a little easier as we know what we did and didnt need the first time, and what was useful to have and what wasnt. I’ve definitely been a lot more relaxed about it second time round, although not any less excited πŸ™‚

  10. June 15, 2016 / 6:41 pm

Looks very organised and reminds me I need some nip cream in mine ahhhhhhhh – I am almost 34 weeks and packed mine last week, but still need a summer dressing gown and aforementioned cream! All the best, exciting x #bestandworst

    • June 16, 2016 / 11:06 pm

Wow, you are way more organised than me! You still have a little bit of time to get the last bits, sure you’ll have everything you need on the day from the sounds of it πŸ™‚

  11. June 16, 2016 / 6:58 pm

Sounds like you have everything you will need. It’s good to be organised. I hadn’t packed a bag for my daughter so my mum and sister ended up running round getting her stuff together whilst my contractions rapidly increased in intensity with me occasionally shouting out things they would need!

    • June 16, 2016 / 10:52 pm

I hope so! I finally packed our little ladys one today and I’m so glad I did as I had visions of the same thing happening to us if not. Although at least they’d have a list to work from rather than me shout it all out between contractions, ouch! πŸ˜‰

  12. June 17, 2016 / 9:08 am

Lovely post, don’t think you have forgotten anything. It’s lovely to be organised, with my first and third babies I didn’t have a bag packed. It was a grab what you can and run situation lol #thelist

  13. June 19, 2016 / 8:28 am

It’s not long before I’ll be needing to pack mine. Will be saving the post to refer to!

  14. June 19, 2016 / 11:43 am

Eeek exciting! I think packing the hospital bag makes it all seem a bit more real, doesn’t it? My hubby also had a bag with a pair of shorts and a t-shirt in it as our hospital is extremely hot and he’d have been uncomfortable in jeans xx #KCACOLS

I absolutely love this! I was lucky enough to go home the same day last time so I didn’t end up being alot but I have to stop thinking the same thing will happen again and really make sure we have what we need. Will definitely be using your post as reference when I finally get round to doing it, and I didn’t even think about packing Archie a bag in case he needs to stay out overnight. Can’t believe you’re so close now, can’t wait to see baby! Kaye xo

I think you have everything covered! Even for your little girly. A really organized list, what a weight off your shoulders that must be to have everything ready to go. I remember feeling so excited packing each teeny baby suit and deciding what I’ll need. Such an exciting time x thanks for hosting hun #marvmondays

  27. June 20, 2016 / 10:52 pm

Good packing! I ended up being in hospital for 5 days when I was in so hubby had to do a couple of extra pick ups of things! Hair ties were a must – although my hair has now all gone so not next time! – and something comfy to wear afterwards! I am impressed you have jeans packed! I couldnt face those for at least a couple of weeks!

  28. June 21, 2016 / 2:23 am

Wow I’d forgotten just how much stuff you need to pack into a hospital bag. It is great to be organised and just ready to go when the time comes – looks like you’ve got everything covered! #marvmondays

Good list & very organised! I went for the labour and post birth bags as separate & found that helpful. As my second baby was born very suddenly & never made it to hospital, I may as well have not bothered with the bag packing that time. Putting old sheets on our bed and covering it in old towels, would have been helpful preparation though! Especially as, on being told to get towels, my OH brought in the best towels. I only realised after. This is totally irrelevant, sorry! #MarvMondays

Sounds like you’ve got everything covered! I didn’t use anything from my birth bag second time round, my daughter was born in the triage room and my husband did have time to run to the car for the bag, but brought up the wrong one! I ended up staying over night though so was happy to have all my things, especially my snacks haha, for the little stay in hospital. x #KCACOLS
