The gratitude series is back and what better time to bring it back than the new year. I have been feeling all the gratitude feels lately and was running out of reasons why not to start writing these blog posts again. For those of you that are new to them they are a place where I capture all the things that I am feeling grateful for each week. A little gratitude diary if you may. I started these posts last year but stopped writing them sometime after I went back to work, probably at a time when I needed to write them the most.
There is something to be said about the power of gratitude and gratitude lists. I personally find they center me. They make me stop and take a minute to reflect in all the busyness and all the craziness of life. It’s so easy to look past the ordinary moments, the little things that bring as much joy as the big things. It’s so easy to have a bad day or a quiet week and think that they are a reflection of your life when they are not. Its only when you stop and reflect on all the little things that you are grateful for that you realise that there actually are lots of things to be grateful for.
For example, this week was my first week back at work after the Christmas and New Year break and whilst it was insanely busy and intense it was also surprisingly incredible for so many reasons:
#1 I had a great first week back at work. Despite the insane work schedule, getting back into routine and juggling ALL the balls I somehow managed to smash the first week back. I was productive, focused and completely in the zone.
#2 I got two new coaching clients at work. Both are relatively senior which will give me my first taste of executive coaching which is both exciting and scary.
#3 I signed up to a new course at work that will add to my coaching experience. Super exciting!
#4 I discovered Oprah Winfrey’s Soulful Sunday podcasts and am OBSESSED.
#5 I wore a new jacket I got for my birthday for the first time. It makes me feel amazing and I love it.
#6 Our new bed finally arrived and it was so worth the wait. I feel like I’m in a hotel ALL the time.
#7 Our cleaner returned from what felt like a very long Christmas break. The joy I felt walking into a clean sparkly home after work was one of the best feelings I had all week.
#8 I’ve enjoyed eating a cleaner, more balanced diet and have felt so much better for it.
#9 Seeing the transformation of London Bridge station made me feel grateful that I get to travel through it each day.
#10 My nail varnish lasting all week when it usually lasts only a few days made me feel like I was winning. by the end of the week
#11 I discussed a potential short term opportunity in our New York office at work that sounds very exciting and gave me all of the feels.
So it was an amazing week. That doesn’t mean that it wasnt exhausting and demanding because it was, but it was also filled to the brim with things lots of things to be grateful for so I’m glad I stopped and took a moment to write this list, because it wasnt until I did that I realised just how great a week it was.
I started writing these posts for me but so many of you commented last year on how much you enjoyed reading my gratitude posts, and some of you even started to write your own.
