New Year, New Goals. Hello 2018.

Talk about cutting it to the wire. It’s January 1st and only now am I sitting down to write my new goals for 2018. But truth be told I haven’t been able to until this moment. All week I have been willing the words to come. Yet when I sat down found there was nothing to write. Not for lack of wanting to, but because I simply didn’t know what I wanted to focus on, be and become.

Then, just like that 2018 started to come into focus and along with it all the things that I want from it. 2017 was a great year, but it was a transitional year. Like a filler episode of your favourite series, one that gets you from A to B. Not amazing, but absolutely necessary. I am so excited about 2018 for reasons that I can’t explain. A guttural feeling just tells me that 2018 has the potential to be an amazing year. Which is just as well because there are so many things I want from it.

I’ve never been one for resolutions or all of that out with the old in with the new, new year new me stuff. The pressure to fundamentally change habits of a lifetime and replace them all of a sudden with new ones that are usually unsustainable and unachievable lost their appeal a long, long time ago. But goals, goals are meaningful and enduring and if I don’t have any to tether myself to I feel lost. New goals give me purpose, focus and a sense of clarity about where I am heading.

A Year in Reflection

2018 is about building on the achievements of 2017 and the last few years. In 2017 I said goodbye to maternity leave, went through redundancy and landed myself a bigger, better new job in the city. We went on holiday and had lots of little adventures together. I got offered lots of amazing blogging opportunities and towards the end of the year started my coaching journey. Something that I am looking forward to continuing and cant wait to share with you all. But amidst all the excitement and opportunities I struggled to find a balance and never really made time for me. So 2018 is going to be about trying to shift the balance, invest in me and make more time and space for more family adventures.

I Want to Work on Me

My body, my confidence, my wellbeing. I want to be a better person, inside and out. I think both those things can only come from being completely confident in myself, who I am and what I look like. So this year I’m going to be seriously focusing on carving out the time I need. I’d like to introduce some element of fitness back into my life, better eating habits and doing things that make me feel more confident. It’s going to mean making some big changes and commitments to be able to work on these things consistently, but I know they are core to me feeling more happy and content.

I Want to Find a Better Balance

Last year the scales seemed to continuously tip between work and blogging and I just couldn’t get the balance right. Especially after I first went back to work after maternity leave and blogging became pretty non-existent. I have a habit of allowing myself to become completely consumed by whatever it is that I am passionate about at any one moment. But I have multiple passions and interests and need to figure out a way for them to co-exist and thrive. This year I’d like to get back to blogging more consistently and regularly as well as growing and building what I have created over the last four years.

I’m going to Take the Leap

Towards the end of 2017 I started my coaching journey. I furthered my training, built on my existing qualifications and found my first coaching clients. I have hugely benefitted from coaching throughout my career, especially during my transition to and from maternity leave. Over the last year, I realised that I wanted to do something more. Something that gives others the opportunity to discover and experience the clarity that coaching can bring to your life. I am by nature a perfectionist, but I am going to take myself out of my comfort zone, take the leap and create something exciting for others that would like to explore the magic of coaching.

We’re Going to Go On More Adventures

We got really good in 2017 at going out as a family on lots of mini adventures. From exploring National Trust places, to going out with friends and family to new places. We did what we set out to do at the start of 2017 but I’d like us to be a little more adventurous. I’d love to do much more travelling to places that we’ve been wanting to visit and perhaps even a few that we haven’t.
