This is my space. My little slice of paradise, my island of solitude. A space I can finally call my very own. When I set out on my little project to create a workspace I had no idea where it would lead me, or what it would look like.
Well, I did have some ideas but I didn’t know which way I’d go. All I knew was that I was desperate for a space to call my own, so when Chris and I found some space in the house that I could carve out I was ridiculously excited, and when GLTC said they’d like to team up with me on this project I was deliriously excited.
Creating a home office
Ever since we went to the GLTC showroom opening back in Spring two beautiful pieces had caught my eye. GLTC maybe a children’s retailer, but many of the pieces of furniture that they make are so versatile they can be used by adults as well as children.
It’s taken me at least two months longer than I had anticipated completing this makeover, distracted by the arrival of our little man, two big family weddings and a holiday, but at last, it is finished and I can finally share the big reveal with you all!
It’s a look that has come together almost by itself. A kind of evolution almost. Built around the two stars of the show, the GLTC Fleming desk and Clifton wall shelves have really provided the framework for this space.
I started this project with how I wanted it to feel; inspiring and energising yet calm and built a look around that, curating individual pieces that fit with that type of space. I am a dreamer and a believer, fueled by positivity and the art of the possible so it was important to me that my space not only reflected but inspired it too.
There is a lot of white. A lot more than I thought there would be. My initial mood and inspiration boards pulled me towards three distinct themes; monochrome scandi chic, white with fun pops of pastels and then white with accents of copper and rose gold.
I loved the freshness of the monochrome look but wasn’t sure I’d find inspiration there. I was tempted by the playfulness of the pastels but wasn’t sure if I’d achieve the grown-up look I wanted, instead deciding to use it as a theme for our little hallway storage project (look out for another reveal post soon!).
In the end, I realised I kept coming back to copper and rose gold which I’ve been slightly obsessed with for the last year and is perfect for my new space.
Styling The Clifton Shelves
It’s the shelves that make this space. It always is. This is where you find character and personality. A glimpse into who someone is and what they are about. Hopefully, mine says that I am a dreamer, a believer of possibilities and writing our own stories.
In a strange way, I feel like the pieces on my shelves found me, piece after piece coming together to create a space that makes me feel happy and inspired whenever I sit there.
It’s a style but functional space with books that I can easily pick up and put away quotes that I love and want to be reminded of and things that I think are pretty to look at.

Styling the Fleming Desk
This desk *sigh*.
I fell in love with this beautiful desk the moment I saw it in the GLTC showroom. There was something about the simplicity of it that just grabbed me.
Of course, it was dressed in a mocked-up set of a child’s bedroom but I could just see the potential it had for a home office space. I love the bright white and pine contrast, the design of the draws and the nifty little flap it has to hide cables or other things. It even has little holes for storing pens, or perhaps makeup brushes if one were to use it as a vanity table, wink wink.
I’ve kept things simple on this space. I’ve talked before about my love for bright, airy and clear spaces to work from so I only have what I need on a day to day basis.
At some point, I will probably add some photos which are definitely missing. I think it’ll be lovely to hang some Polaroid prints of the children and family on some twinkly lights or twine going across the bottom shelf. Otherwise, I’m really happy with how this space looks and feels.
I love and am proud of this space, tucked away in an alcove of our dining room. It may not have a door, but it’s a place I can find inspiration and get lost in for a few minutes or hours if I’m ever lucky enough to find myself with that much free time in my day. Plus, I get first dibs on the fridge and kettle for endless cups of half-drunk cold tea!

Disclosure; we were very kindly sent the GLTC Fleming desk and Clifton shelves to review as part of our role in the GLTC Testing Team. We have lots of fun in what we think is one of the best jobs in the world, but we also take our role and responsibility very seriously which means you will always find a fair review and honest opinion of everything we test for GLTC.
