Janod Watercolour Painting Set Review

Janod Atelier Painting Set - Ella painting Pic 2I knew the moment I saw the beautiful Janod Atelier watercolour kit that it would be something that Ella would adore. Because despite not having a creative bone in my body, or so I thought until I started blogging, my daughter adores all things arts and crafts. It is her favourite way to wile away the day, and if I let her she would craft away all day at her leisure.

Painting is her latest obsession. She loves mixing the colours and seeing the way that new and exciting colours form before her eyes. Making beautiful little masterpieces for us to display all over our home.

Introducing the Janod watercolour painting set

Watercolours are a new venture for us and the Janod watercolour painting set is the perfect way to introduce little ones to watercolours in a fun and easy way.

Although labelled as suitable for 4 – 8 year-olds by Janod, the set was easy and simple enough for Ella to use independently at 3 years old.

What comes in the tin

The set comes in a lovely, colourful tin which has a set of cards with unpainted images, a set of watercolours, a palette for the paints, a paintbrush, pipette and a little book showing all the completed pictures to guide little ones when painting.

For Ella, half the fun was setting everything up. Squeezing the paints into the palette using the pipette and choosing a card to paint which was a whole new experience for her.

One of the things that I quickly noticed and really came to appreciate when Ella was painting, was that all the pictures on the cards are printed in such a way that it prevents any of the paints from bleeding into each other. This means that little ones end up with a pretty impressive picture at the end regardless of how good they are at staying inside the lines.

But the wonderful cards are only half the story because an artist is only as good as his or her paints. So it was a delight to see that the Janod watercolours were as bright and vibrant as the colours on the box and Ella was able to create some truly stunning paintings for a three-year-old.

They were so pretty that just had to have a go for myself much to Ella’s disdain when she discovered that I had “accidentally” finished a whole card without her. But it was so relaxing I just couldn’t help myself.

Janod Atelier Painting Set Pic 4We spent a number of hours over the weekend painting in these pretty cards and managed to steal an hour or two after school to start a few new ones. Yet we still have lots of cards left to paint which just goes to show the mileage that the Janod watercolour set has.

For its price, a mere £16, it’s a wonderful investment in getting your little ones started with watercolours and comes in two lovely ranges, this under the water set and a pretty enchantment set. We got ours from the wonderful Tendre Deal, a beautiful online boutique for French designer children’s clothing, toys, games amongst other gorgeous french made things.

So if you have a little creative on your hands I couldn’t think of a better way to introduce them to the absolute joy that is watercolours.

Hey, you didn’t share the finished cards, I wanna see! I love painting, but I must admit I hide the paints from Tyler as he makes such a mess! But the fact that these prevent the paint colours from bleeding, that is really good! I might have a get a pack! xx
