Weaning is definitely one of my highlights of the baby years, and I am enjoying it just as much the second time around as I did the first time around.
The whole journey and experience of teaching little ones how to eat and introducing them to new foods, flavours and textures really is and can be a lot of fun. Less so I suppose if you have a baby that doesn’t really take to it, isn’t keen of lots of foods, flavours and textures, but we’ve been really lucky both times round to have little ones that have taken to it with gusto.
One of the things I’ve equally enjoyed this time round is discovering Vital Baby and their bright and wonderful range that have made weaning and mealtimes fun and easy. So I wanted to share five of my favourite Vital Baby products that I would recommend to anyone that is going to be starting weaning soon, or that is already weaning.
#1 Aquaint Sanitising Water
If I had to pick a favourite of my own from the Vital Baby range this would be it. I can’t tell you how much I love this clever little sanitising spray. It is definitely up there as one of my top new baby discoveries over the last eight months.
It sanitises everything you would expect it to and more. What is better is that whilst it is antibacterial and kills 99.9% of bacteria, it is 100% natural cleansing water, meaning no nasties whatsoever.
That opens up a whole new world of sanitising, from dummies to bottles, to baby cutlery, plates, cups, to sticky little hands and faces. You name it, it can be safely sanitised.
The Aquaint Sanitising Water is an absolute game-changer. It also comes in two handy sizes, one of which is perfect to pop into the change bag and sanitise on the go as I did when we were on holiday abroad last summer.
#2 Soft Spout Two Handled Trainer Cup
If I had to pick one favourite for the little guy himself, this would probably be it. He loves this little cup and for good reason too. It’s the cup that he has learnt to independently drink water from and after seven months of just having milk that’s a pretty exciting development.
Like most things in the Vital Baby range, this two-handled cup is perfect for little hands and encourages independence. There are lots of things to love about this cup, from its soft spout designed to be kind to sensitive little mouths and gums, to the dual non-spill and free-flow feature that helps little ones to learn how to control the flow of their drink.
I love how easy it has been to teach the little guy how to use a cup thanks to our soft spout two-handled trainer cup.
#3 Unbelievabowl Suction Bowl
I feel like our Unbelievabowl is just about to come into its own, despite having used it for at least the last two months.
When we first started weaning, the little one was perfectly happy to sit in his chair and be fed by mummy or daddy which meant not having to use the suction part of the bowl. But as he has grown, got more inquisitive and more recently, mobile, meal times have become a lot messier.
No longer is he just happy being fed, but he wants to touch and feel his food, and at times attempt to feed himself (probably unsuccessfully). So it’s probably time that we really put this clever little bowl up to the test and let the little one loose on it at lunchtime. But even as a standard bowl which is how we’ve been using it, its been pretty fab. Easy to wash, microwavable and a great size for weaning.
#4 Soft Tip & Grip Feeding Spoon
There are so many things to love about these soft little spoons, from the bright, cheery colours to their ergonomic design and perfect spoon size for little mouths. Cutlery can seem like such a simple thing, but when babies are learning to eat it’s really important that they have soft spoons that are kind to their mouths and gums, and that is the right shape and easy for them to eat from like the soft tip and grip feeding spoons.
It’s also really important that they are comfortable and easy to use, not only for mum and dad but for baby too when they are getting to grips with feeding themselves. These really are fab little spoons and a bargain at £3.49 for a four-pack.
#5 Removable Twist and Lock Freezer Pots
These nifty little freezer pots are the perfect size for weaning, and whilst the concept of freezer pots isn’t particularly new, the twist and lock pots and clever little tray they come with are.
I remember having something similar when Ella was weaning, except the pots didn’t lock into the tray, which meant teeny, tiny little freezer pots were always scattered across our freezer drawers whenever we opened it. Not a big deal you think until you realise that weaning relies on having a bit of a system to remember what was cooked when.
I’m sure if you’re super organised you could probably get a fancy pen and write the dates on the lid, but I’m not, so I store everything like the supermarkets, new stuff at the back, oldest stuff at the front. So having these little twist and lock freezer pots are perfect for making sure everything is where I left it each and every time.
