Everyone always says that your first pregnancy is a luxury, but you never truly appreciate exactly what that means until your second pregnancy when you have a toddler running around. I rarely get to sit down and relax for more than five minutes these days, even whilst I’ve been on maternity leave. There is just always something to do and a little one to always entertain or see to. During my first pregnancy I had nothing but time. Time to relax after work, time to look after myself and time to regularly go to the gym and pregnancy yoga classes which I managed to do throughout out most of my pregnancy. This time round I have really struggled to maintain any type of fitness routine or programme. There just isn’t enough time in the day and unfortunately it just hasn’t been high enough on the priority list against everything else that needs to get done on a daily and weekly basis.
I’ve really missed and felt the lack of exercise in my second pregnancy. I could of course have bought myself a couple of exercise DVDs to do at home like I had the first time round, but I was really underwhelmed by what was out there so discovering the Fit Bump Box was the perfect solution for this busy and tired mama.
How It Works
The Fit Bump Box is one of the most simple, original and clever concepts out there when it comes to pregnancy and postnatal fitness. A subscription box that brings the gym and fitness class to you in one of the most easy and comprehensive programmes I’ve come across. You simply subscribe, wait for your beautifully packaged box of fitness goodies to be delivered, register online and away you go!
From week 14 of pregnancy you can subscribe to one of three Fit Bump Box packages to suit your needs. The Adorable Box which offers a three month taster and all the kit you’ll need in the Fit Bump Box. The Awesome Box which gives you all the kit in the box plus a full years access to weekly workouts which take you from week 14 of pregnancy to week 26 postnatally. Finally there’s the Amazing Box which gives you everything the Awesome Box gives you, plus monthly Skype consultation calls with Dr Joanna Helcke. Even better, you also get access to a whole range of additional things regardless of which box you subscribe to including a website packed with useful pregnancy and postnatal information, a forum where you can connect with other members and access to a facebook group.

What I Love
I love that pretty much everything you need is in this one nifty, and rather beautifully packaged box. The only thing that is missing that you do need for some of the later workouts is a proper sized gym ball which luckily I already had. I also really like the way that a new video gets released to you via email each week which is a great prompt and definitely something I’ve needed to remind me. It’s great how quick and easy it is to get going each week, as long as you have your Fit Bump Box you are ready to go and Dr Joanna Helcke always tells you at the start of each video what bits you’ll need from your box for the session which is really helpful. All the videos are really professional and well made, and I love how Joanna talks you through the posture for the various positions which is something that is really important, especially during pregnancy and makes a massive difference to the effectiveness of a workout.
How I Got On
I started doing the Fit Bump Box programme quite late on into my pregnancy and have found that the workouts are perfectly paced and put together for this late stage of pregnancy. I started the workouts not long after I received my box at week 34, and completed my most recent workout this week at week 39. I love that the workouts are varied from week to week and have a real mix and range to them. The workouts are really well put together, easy to follow and just about the right duration for a heavily pregnant lady. I got a good stretch and workout each week, but didn’t exhaust myself. It’s just the way a pregnancy workout should be, gentle but effective and just what my body needs. I’m now really looking forward to seeing what the postnatal workouts are like and how they compare to the pregnancy workouts. I know I’ll need to quickly get in shape after baby arrives as we have not one, but two family weddings coming up this summer so I’m hoping that the workouts are a little more pacey and rigorous so that I can push myself a little. My only wish is that I’d discovered the Fit Bump Box earlier so that I could have done it throughout all of my second pregnancy! So if you’re looking for a pregnancy friendly fitness programme that you can do at you at your own pace and is easy to maintain from the comfort of your own home then I’d definitely recommend trying the Fit Bump Box.
